Summary:
North Down Borough Council have instigated an integrated renewable energy
solution for a newly built Waste Transfer Station where both household
and commercial waste are compacted prior to onward transport. The programme
of works comprises the incorporation of photovoltaic cells, rainwater recycling
and the introduction of a wind turbine to generate electricity for on site
use.
TCI Renewables has acted as technical consultants to North Down Borough Council with regards to the development and construction of the wind turbine. Full planning consent was obtained by TCI Renewables in January 2007 for the wind turbine. In securing this consent, matters relating to visual impact, noise and ecological impact were all satisfactorily addressed to permit the development in an area of woodland adjacent to the Waste Transfer Station in Balloo Industrial Estate, South Bangor. The wind turbine commenced power generation in July 2008
